Silk'n SensEpil

So, as usual I am sitting here, reading over the new technologies that occurring in the 'beauty' world. The Silk'n SensEpil is a long-term hair removal treatment, and the even better part is, is that its over the counter so you can do it at home!!!
This is the only FDA- approved over-the-counter device, which just makes it that much better. It uses Home Pulsed Light technology to remove unwanted hair and it even has a built-in safety sensor to ensure that the appropriate skin types use it. The reason why this technology is so well is because after two to four sessions, the results are just as comparable to professional procedures. If you were to want to remove hair on your legs, the full treatment would only take about thirty minutes.
I'm sure you are thinking; "Wow, this is great, but it probably costs a lot of money!"
Well, to your advantage, the machine costs $499.00 with a $50.00 refill cartridge. This price is a lot better considering the fact that a professional hair removal procedure at an office costs between $200- $500 a session.
It is precaution ed that dark-skinned woman do not use this new technology because it can cause blistering and pigmentation changes in the skin.
The Silk'n SensEpil has received 5 stars and I can tell you that when I have the money to buy stuff like this, you will definitely find this in my bathroom!

Innovative new tools for skin care

The GlowFusion Air Glow Gun is a self tanning kit that you can do at home. It has an "air glow gun" which is the first and only at home airbrush system on the market today. The mist is a micro- nutrient technology that distributes vitamins and nutrients to the skin and a cocoa complex adds anti-aging properties and antioxidant protection.

The reason why this is so good is because it is streak-free. It also elements the concerns with cancer that are associated when using an actual tanning bed or going out in the sun. The other advantage to using this at home kit is that it dries fast and lasts up to two weeks with out any fading.

The reason why I wanted to mention this tanning method is because so many woman across the country spend so much money and time on tanning in tanning beds or laying out in the sun without protection to get that "glow." The risks that come with tanning at a salon with UV lights, is that it can cause cancer. A friend of mine from high school has skin cancer now because she used to go tanning three times a week in a tanning bed all through out high school and she now has skin cancer on her back. She had to get it removed, but she now has scars and has to get checked every 3 months.

The new technology of sunless tanning is a great idea. I know that at One Minute Tan near Chauncey here at Purdue, you can get sunless tanning for only 36 dollars for two tans. Each of them last up to 2 weeks, and its a great way to look great, without having to worry about getting cancer. I think that the at home kit is even better! If you can still have the same look without having to get in your car and go somewhere to have this tanning procedure done, then its all worth it. I know that many companies like Dove or L'Oreal have sunless tanning lotions that you can apply to your body. They are simply lotions with a tint of self tanning applied to them. I think its great that people can have options for wanting to look bronzed and tanned all year around, with out having the concerns about UV lights and skin cancer.

Injectables

Along with laser treatments and radio energy therapies, a different technology used are injectables. Injectables consist of BOTOX cosmetics and injectable fillers. Most people use these to help with signs of aging. The majority of people use these fillers on their face but some people can use of their hands, etc. as I mentioned with the radio energy therapies.
Have you ever looked at someones face and said "Oh my God, what did they do to it?" or " WOW, that person definitely had implants done to their lips." Well, these BOTOX and injectables are why some peoples faces look 'perfected' or a little too perfected that they look almost fake or like 'Cat Woman.' If you don't know who cat woman is, here is a link of who she is:
http://www.funnypictures.net.au/images/worst-plastic-surgery-in-the-world-cat-woman1.jpg

Cat Woman is obviously an extreme to what plastic surgery can do to your face and how you can become addicted but if you look at her lips and how her skin is extremely firm, you can tell that BOTOX and injectables were done to her face. I personally think that this is very sad that someone has become so addicted that they ruin their face like this.

I do believe that these type of technologies are good for the human culture but I do have a concern for the addiction that comes along with it. These procedures are not cheap and someone can become in serious debt if they don't have the right money to afford it.

If you take a look at this link:
http://www.salon.com/mwt/broadsheet/2007/08/16/cosmetic_democracy/index.html
it talks about how people are going out of their way to get hefty loans and certain health insurances because they want plastic surgery so badly or enough opt out of their health insurance so that they can finance their surgery even better. It is a very interesting article and I plan on learning more about BOTOX and injectables with the factor of debt.

Radio Energy Therapies

So, as usual, I have been reading about the new technologies in the beauty industry. I am completely fascinated with the new technologies that have occurred over the past few years that are non-invasive surgeries.

Something that I have been reading up on is 'Radio Energy Therapies.' One of the new technologies is the Thermacool non surgical face lift by 'Thermage.' This company uses the new technology of radio energy to give someone a face lift. It is approved by the FDA and in just one treatment you look longer by reducing wrinkles, etc. Another technology introduced is the Hands by Thermage which tightens the skin in your hands. The reason why they wanted to do this for the hands is because over time, your hands get worn out. You use them all day long, typing, exercising, writing, picking things up, etc. So, by using a Capacitive Radio frequency beam, it uses heat to get to the deepest layer on your skin to provide long lasting improvement. One of the reasons why people use this hand procedure is because it only requires one visit, unlike laser treatments. It is a one time, non surgical procedure.

Radio energy therapies are used in traditional Chinese medicine practices. It China, they use this therapy to perform a traditional massage. They use it to influence the acupoints on the body to remove blockages and promote free flow throughout the body.

I mean, if I was given the opportunity to have a radio energy based massage I would definitely want to do it. Having someone not touch your body, but have the same effect and feel afterwards, or an even better feeling of relaxation, would be cool to experience. I think its really neat that these non-invasive procedures can happen, especially with the massages you can receive. As for the same with lasers, I find it fascinating that you can have treatments like this to remove or tighten something on your body that you do not like, and there is no in-patient procedure. I really am curious to see where these technologies are going.

The Technology of Beauty- Laser treatments

So, it took me awhile to figure out what exactly I wanted to blog about, but it came down to something that I am vary passionate about; Health/Beauty Products.
Woman and some men are always wanting to look younger and feel better about themselves as they age. You hear about more and more people going under the knife to make themselves look younger, but now all you need to do is get laser treatment. It is so incredible to me that a light put on your face or on a mark on your body can make you look younger, or be removed in a matter of minutes. And the most incredible thing about this all is that it doesn't involve any form of knife being cut into your skin.
There are different type of lasers such as the 'Fraxel Laser' which can build up your collagen by making it tighter, reducing the appearance of wrinkles, age spots, sun spots, etc. There is also the 'Titan Laser,' which is a face lift done by a laser. It uses light energy to target the dermis where collagen forms directly beneath the surface of the epidermis. It causes new collagen growth and helps tighten and firm the exciting collagen. Another form of laser treatment that blows my mind is the 'Pearl Fractional Laser." This laser is used for photo-aging. It is used for immediate and long term use by using a wavelength of light.
There are many different other forms for laser treatments but these three to me stand out. When you think about wanting to look younger and how about twenty years ago that was never an option, you can no just go get a light put on you to have whatever you want it to do! This technology to me is just amazing. The fact that people can go do a simple procedure such as these and go back to their everyday life as if nothing happened, is mind boggling. Granted- its expensive, but the fact that we have these procedures today is pretty cool to me. I question where laser treatments will be in ten years from now. It will definitely be around still, but maybe hospitals will use it more to do surgery's without using an actual knife. We will have to see.....
